An Exceptional "DOUBLE CASUALTY" (Two Brothers) assembly. Two 1914-15 Star Trios & Two Plaques.To:1831 Private, later 2/Lt R.W.P. MITCHELL.16th Middlesex Regt.Died of Wounds 10th October 1917, Age 21.(Battle of Broodseinde) Remembered with honour at Dozingham military cemetery.Robert William Page MITCHELL was originally a private soldier with the Middlesex Regt and entered France on 12th March 1915. He was commissioned on 26th June 1916. He was fatally wounded on 9th October during the final assault of Battle of Broodseinde. This was a classic battle in the deep mud and torrential rain of Flanders.A German officer wrote that the ordeal in the swampy area in the dark and the fog, was "indescribable". &TF/4448.Pte.S.MITCHELL.1st/7th Middlesex Regt.Killed in Action or Died of Wounds received 13th October 1916, age 19, during the British attack on a four mile front between Eaucourt and Bapaume. As a general undertaking, the attack failed.(MIC states D.O.W.) So, original grave probably lost (Somme). Commemorated with honour on Thiepval Memorial to the missing.Stanley Mitchell was the younger brother of Robert and originally entered Theatre (3) "Egypt" on 1st September 1915.Both men were the sons of William & Mary A. Mitchell of 124, Sydney Road, Muswell Hill, New Southgate. London.
