On 11th August 1916 he died at 36th or 38th C.C.S. at HEILLY of wounds received in action, almost certainly sustained during the actions surrounding The Battle of High Wood, Somme. The details of his M.M. appeared in The London Gazette of 11.10.1916.
Charles is remembered with eternal honour at HEILLY STATION CEMETERY, MERRICOURT-L'ABBE, FRANCE.
An excellent Middlesex / Somme award group in EF on original ribbons in EF, complete with death plaque, cleaned GVF (two tiny non-distracting holes from an early original family suspension) With various copy papers and M.I.C. & M.M. record documents.
Military Medals to Somme casualty recipients from good line regiments, complete with their plaques, are now very scarce indeed.
