[THE ACTION. RONSSAY, ST. QUENTIN, 18/19th SEPT 1918]
During the attack on Ronssoy village the Bedfordshire Regt fought with the Royal West Kents. During the attack some difficulty was experienced by the RWK men who had drifted off line to the right of their proposed track. This led them to merge with the leading companies of the Bedfords, which including B Coy were to their right.
As a result, the two groups of men became involved & entangled with a unit of German troops who were in a small spinney defending the southern approach to the village with several machine guns. It is believed that it was during this fight in the spinney that Alfred Hall lost his life. The action led to the capture of three machine guns & 40 prisoners.
Medals are in practically "Mint State" and are with their original ribbons. The group comes with a copy MIC & MM document.
Also some decent research which includes copy of field maps & history of the action. Also two photos of Albert's headstone.
Albert is buried & commemorated with eternal honour at RONSSOY COMMUNAL CEMETERY. HIS HEADSTONE EPITAPH READS: "ALWAYS IN OUR THOUGHTS"AN EXCELLENT AWARD & GROUP TO A VALIANT SOLDIER WHO GAVE HIS LIFE WHILE FIGHTING WITH ONE OF THE MIDLANDS MOST VENERATED UNITS.SOLD
