[BIOGRAPHY]
Charles Freegard was born in Swansea a resident of the town at the time of his enlistment. He initially landed in France at Le Havre with the 7thBn on 24th July 1915 and was soon transferred to 8th Bn with which unit he was killed in action at the Battle of ARLEUX on 28th April 1917. Before the war Charles was employed at J.H. Jenkins bottling stores in Argyle Street, Swansea.
Charles was lost without trace and has no known grave. He is commemorated with eternal honour on the Arras Memorial. There are nine men called Freegard on the CGW website who were KIA during the Great War, including one other in the S.L.I. & another in the Welsh regiment several of whom are believed to be related to Charles Freegard.
