Died of Wounds in Captivity 23rd DECEMBER 1914. [BIOGRAPHY]
William Colborn was born in 1888, the son of George & Hannah Colborn of Station View, Charfield, Gloucester. He entered France on 11th September 1914 aged 26. His MIC just records him as "Dead 23rd December" , but his financial papers initially record him as being "Missing presumed Dead 21/23.12.14." Apparently he was captured on or around 21st December in a badly wounded condition and died in captivity on 23rd December. He is commemorated on the Charfield war memorial and a local historian has confirmed that William died as a P.O.W.
He is also commemorated with eternal honour on the Le Touret Memorial, France.
An excellent research project for the keen Gloucester enthusiast.
All medals practically mint & uncleaned on their original ribbons.
With several sheets of paperwork & research.
An attractive trio.
