JAMES ROBINSON.[FAMILY DETAILS & BIOGRAPHY]
Gerald Dobson Postlethwaite Robinson was born in Liverpool in 1895. He appears on the 1901 census living with his mother, Clara Mary Robinson (nee' Postlethwaite) (Age 29) at 14 Hillside Road, Wallasey, Cheshire. His father James Robinson was a merchant seaman who also served in WW1 being awarded the Mercantile Marine Medal & War Medal pair included with this grouping.
Based on the high quality nature of the Robinson's Wallasey address (still extant) and the fact that Gerald was studying at Taunton School (Fairwater Boarding House) at age 16 in 1911, it is assumed that Mr Robinson senior was a fairly well to do person & probably a senior officer in the Merchant Navy.
By the start of WW1 Gerald was 19 & resident in the London area and gave an address at Camden Road, Camden, when he enlisted at Clapham Junction Recruiting Office in early September 1914 as number 2206.
He arrived in France with 23rd London (County of London) Regt
on 14th March 1915.
After just 43 days of active service in France, he took part in and was killed in action on 26th May the penultimate day of the Battle of Festubert (15th -27th May 1915).
Gerald's body was lost without trace and he has no known grave. He is remembered with eternal honour on the panels of the Le Touret Memorial, France. He was 20.
