20288. Company Sgt Major WILLIAM CAVE was born and enlisted in Sheffield, Yorkshire. He entered France on 28th October 1915 where he first served with the Army Cycle Corps as Corporal 4241.
He later transferred to the 12th/13th Northumberland Fusiliers with whom he was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery during the fighting at the Battle of Passendaele Ridge in October 1917.
M.M. London Gazette 28th January 1918 KILLED IN ACTION on 25th APRIL 1918
During "Operation Michael" the German Spring Offensive.
An excellent award to a brave Yorkshire man who served with a highly collectable unit. An unusual unit combination.
William Cave is remembered with eternal honour at:
VOORMEZEELE MILITARY CEMETERY, YPRES, BELGIUM. Medals are all superb EF+ (practically mint) with original ribbons.
