Joseph Bellinger was one of the very earliest entrants to the field in WW1 with a disembarkation date of 18th August 1914
(The war was only declared on 5th August 1914) Membership of a 'Trench Mortar Battery' was a very dangerous occupation indeed as enemy fire was naturally drawn onto these units as soon as they were located. The Infantry hated having a TMB close to them as it was like waving a calling card at the enemy artillery !
A classic " Old Contemptible" 14 Star and Bar Trio to a brave fallen soldier which includes his actual hat badge and corporal's tapes and sleeve badge which were brought home on leave shortly before he was killed.
