Private Jenkins was a 29 year old married man from Leckhampton near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire and was the husband of Elsie Amelia Jenkins, of 16, Fairfield Walk, Leckhampton. He was KILLED IN ACTION on 23rd April 1917 near Wancourt.
THE CHRISTMAS TRUCE, DECEMBER 25th 1914. *The 2nd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers were one of the first units into France in August 1914 and were later involved in the now famous Christmas Truce of 24th December 1914. It was the 2nd Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers who first heard the Saxon Infantry soldiers singing “Silent Night” in their trenches on Christmas Eve 1914 and later joined them on Christmas day to play football in No Man’s Land on Christmas Day 1914.
