 Young Roland Duck entered France with the 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment on 18th April 1915.He was Killed in Action, 25th May 1915 (Just 37 days later). His death occured during the Battle of St Julian, when the 150th York & Durham Brigade (50th Northumberlamd Div,) counter-attacked after a  previous German advance.   

  

He was only just 18 years old having enlisted at Saltburn in late 1914 as part of Kitchener's New Army. Aged 17, he was at the very minimum age for overseas British Army service. 

 

A native of Skinningrove, Yorkshire, he was the son of George Duck of Stable Cottages. Roland is commemorated on the Saltburn War Memorial.
Medals are EF on original faded ribbons with top pin mounts to reverse.
Plaque is Mint State, Scroll is slightly cut down from a previous framing.

Like so many thousands, Roland's body was never recovered and he has no known grave.
He is also commemorated with honour on
The Menin Gate, Panel 33.
