-Gloucestershire Echo-Monday 18th February 1889-
“Major-General Charles Henry Clay, late of the Bombay Staff Corps, died at his residence in Gloucester Crescent, Hyde Park on Thursday, the 14th of February at the comparatively early age of 56.
The deceased officer was born in November 1832, and entered the east India company’s service in August 1850, being gazetted to the 21st Bombay native infantry in January, 1852. Transferred to the 30th Bombay native infantry in June, 1858, he served during the Indian mutiny with Beatson’s Horse in 1858–1859 in the pursuit of various operations against Tantia Topee and the Rao Sahib, and was present at the cavalry affair with Tantia’s rearguard at Bajrode, on the 26th of October, 1858 receiving the medal for his services.”
An Excellent and Unusual Pair to a High Ranking Staff Officer in the Indian Army. Both medals are EF+ with an original patina and have clearly hardly ever been worn.
