CRIMEA MEDAL (1854) J. MORGAN . GRENADIER GUARDS. DIED at SCUTARI HOSPITAL.
£SOLD

CRIMEA MEDAL (1854) J. MORGAN . GRENADIER GUARDS. DIED at SCUTARI HOSPITAL. With out doubt, behind this medal is yet another story of the tragedy of the disease and shocking conditions of the Crimean War. Having died on 13th February 1855 Morgan will have become sick during the shocking winter of 1854-5 which saw hundreds of men and horses dropping dead with hunger and disease caused by the winter storms which hit the area toward the end of November. The break in the weather brought conditions which ruined the Allies' camps and supply lines. Men and horses became sick and starved in the poor conditions. Dysentry and Enteric ever put many men in hospital and there were many deaths of these then lethal complaints.
